California carrot giant Grimmway Farms is recalling several types of baby carrots and shredded after a test showed possible Salmonella contamination. Organic and conventional products are implicated.
“The withdrawal was launched as a result of a routine, internal company test,” said Grimmway Farms President and CEO Jeff Huckaby. “The health of our customers and the integrity of our products are our highest priorities, and we will continue to monitor and communicate while additional information is available.”
To date, no illness has been linked to this withdrawal, according to the company announcement withdrawn by the Food and Drug Administration.
There is concern that consumers may have unused parts of carrot products in their homes due to their long shelf life. The products are best if used by the dates until August 20th.
Consumers can identify the products recalled from the table below and the photos posted on the FDA website. Whoever has the withdrawn product in his possession should not consume it and should destroy or dispose of it, according to the withdrawal notice.
In addition to retail packaged products, the company recalled some chopped carrots and shredded carrots that were sold to food manufacturers and food service distributors. All affected food manufacturers, food service distributors and retail customers are informed of most of the product that has been recovered before it is available for consumption.
The company has notified all customers who received the product withdrawn directly from Grimmway Farms and asked them to remove it from the trade. Grimmway Farms has also requested that direct customers notify their customers of this withdrawal.
The products listed in the table below were shipped directly to retailers across the United States.

About salmonella infections
Food contaminated with Salmonella bacteria usually does not look, smell or taste spoiled. Anyone can get a Salmonella infection. Infants, children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of serious illness because their immune systems are fragile, according to the CDC.
Anyone who has eaten any of the products mentioned and developed symptoms of Salmonella infection should seek medical attention. Sick people should tell their doctors about possible exposure to Salmonella bacteria because special tests are needed to diagnose salmonellosis. The symptoms of salmonella infection can mimic other diseases, often leading to misdiagnosis.
Symptoms of Salmonella infection may include diarrhea, abdominal pain, and fever within 12 to 72 hours after eating contaminated food. Otherwise, healthy adults are usually sick for four to seven days. In some cases, however, the diarrhea may be so severe that patients require hospitalization.
Older adults, children, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems, such as cancer patients, are more likely to develop a serious illness and serious, sometimes life-threatening conditions.
Some people become infected without getting sick or showing any symptoms. However, they can still spread infections to others.
