DUBUQUE, Iowa (KWWL) – Simmons Pet Food marked the official opening and launch of the first phase of a commercial operation at its $ 100 million, 275,000-square-foot canned pet food production plant in Dubuque.

Simmons Pet Food, the 6th largest pet food manufacturer in the country bought the old Flexsteel factory last year. Team members and community members gathered for a ribbon cut on Wednesday.

“Today, Dubuque, Iowa became part of the Simmons Pet Food family,” said Scott Salmon, Simmons president
Animal feed. “In less than seven months, economic development and the leaders of the Dubuque community together
with our team members, helped Simmons Pet Food take an important strategic step to expand our production
capacities and we offer our customers food that will feed and satisfy the pets we want “.

The plant, which brings with it about 270 new jobs in the area, is expected to eventually produce 408 million units of wet and canned animal feed each year. The first of the two production lines is in operation, producing a capacity of 168 million units. The second production line is expected to start operating in April 2022, bringing the total to 408 million units.
